TOWN HALL MEETING

Following the Invitation from the Wurupong/Ahenkro Unity Ambassadors to the Biakoye District Assembly to a Town Hall Meeting for Development Deliberations on Friday, 1stSeptember, 2023 at Nkonya Senior High School. With a shared objective to foster unity, growth, and development within our district, the group called for a meeting dedicated to discussing critical development matters that directly impact the future of the Nkonya community.

The invitation was also extended to esteemed individuals such as the interior minister, regional minister, former DCEs, and the paramount chiefs of Nkonya Ahenkro and Nkonya Wurupong, who share dedication to the progress of the Biakoye district.

Pursuant to the Local Governance Act (Act 936), Local Economic Development is one of the core mandates of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana. In view of this, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Biakoye District, Hon. Millicent Kabuki Carboo together with the District Coordinating Director (DCD), Hon. Moses Ansah Sasraku,the Presiding Member (PM) and other key staffs of the Assembly drawn from various departments engaged the people of Nkonya to discuss critical development issues confronting the communities as well as to deliberate on how there will be lasting peace in Nkonya land. Also present was the Regional Minister, Hon. Joshua Makubu.

The Town Hall Meeting took the form of discussions and the way forward towards enhancing development in the Nkonya community and Biakoye in general. The meeting served as a platform for open dialogue and collaborative brainstorming.

Among the needs as tabled by the community to the Office of the DCE were;

  1. Construction of the DCE/DCD bungalow and the assembly complex, despite the initiation of construction activities in 2012.
  2. The construction of Kpodzi road, connecting Kpeme through Nkonya Tayi, which bears significance for enhanced connectivity within the district.
  3. Ongoing efforts to promote and sustain peace between Nkonya and Alavanyo, crucial for the prosperity and harmony of our community.
  4. The absence of representatives from the chiefs in assembly meetings, seeking to address the factors contributing to this situation.

The Chief with his elders and community members expressed their outmost gratitude for the Hon. DCE’s engagement with them and encouraged all leaders to learn from her footprints in their bid to change their story
