BOWIRI ABOHIRE WATERFALLS
On Saturday, 21st September 2024, revelers, including Heads of Departments, Units, Agencies, Teachers, Health Workers, Students, Foreigners, and community members, gathered at the Bowiri Abohire Waterfalls for the annual Biakoye District Corporate Day celebration. This event, which is an initiative of our District Chief Executive, Hon. Millicent Kabuki Carboo brings together corporate bodies in the district for socialization and for development purposes. It also aims to promote the district’s potential tourist attractions sites.
Organized by the Biakoye District Assembly (BDA) in collaboration with the Centre for National Culture office (CNC), the program promotes culture in development, diversifies and expands the tourism industry for economic growth. Abohire, one of the communities in Bowiri, is located 20 minutes from Kwamekrom (the economic capital of Bowiri) and is part of the eastern half of the Oti Region.
The Bowiri Abohire Waterfalls, a 25-minute walk from the roadside, reveals a pristine jungle. The perennial waterfall, 25-30 minutes from the Bowiri-Abohire township, is surrounded by a natural canopy. The water falls 50 meters into a rocky pool, fed by two streams, Abohire and Kekremutu. Its unique beauty and cool atmosphere make it a hidden treasure.
The Biakoye District Corporate Day 2024, themed “Coming Together for Peaceful Co-Existence,” brought together workers from public and private institutions for socialization and cultural appreciation. The event featured colorful cultural displays, competitions, and local games, with music and dance performances by Dzidzor Enye Borbobor Band and Unity Aboabo Borbobor Group.
With 120 plus attendees and 13 temporary jobs created, the Biakoye District Assembly aims to continue advertising these sites to attract investors and promote local economic development, as mandated by the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936).
The maiden Biakoye District Corporate Day was celebrated for the first time at the Abohire Waterfalls in 2022, and the second one, which took place in 2023, was celebrated at the Nkonya Adzamansu Beach. We hope to celebrate the next event at the Bowiri Aboabo Quadruplet Waterfalls as named by our Honourable District Chief Executive, Madam Millicent Carboo.
